Preliminary Notice

The Second Appalachian Remote Sensing Conference will build on the issues addressed during the first conference, focusing specifically on research and applications of remote sensing and related geospatial technologies to Appalachian systems.  Topics discussed during the first conference included urban land use change, archeological applications of remote sensing and GIS, remote sensing's role in regional transportation planning, application of remote sensing to native and invasive plant management, and the use of remote sensing and geospatial technologies in education.  These represent only a sample from the first conference.

The conference will again be sponsored by West Virginia View, with support from its partners including West Virginia University Department of Geology and Geography, West Virginia University Department of Biology, West Virginia GIS Technical Center, Canaan Valley Institute, and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.  We are in the initial planning stages and anticipate input from the local, state-wide, and regional remote sensing community. All topics are welcome, but we are particularly interested in the projects that utilize the latest imagery, including Lidar, high resolution aerial and satellite, and unique applications that combine different types of data, such as Lidar and satellite imagery.  Analysis of Appalachian biological-ecological, physical, and socio-cultural systems are welcome, as are interdisciplinary research and applications.

We anticipate a half day workshop on May 10th, focusing on Lidar or similar technology.  Check back for additional details.

Lodging and registration information will be forthcoming.
